MAASFEP Awards to Educators and Programs

Each fall MAASFEP presents awards to exemplary professionals who work with federal or state programs in each congressional district and a unique educational program in the state. Our organization does this to recognize the service of our colleagues to their students, as well as to salute effective programs that serve as a model for others.

The Senator Paul Wellstone Memorial Award

Related Documents:

MAASFEP believes it to be particularly appropriate to honor the memory of Senator Wellstone because of his unrelenting support of public education, particularly the education of those living in poverty. Therefore, during the 2007 Fall Conference, MAASFEP will present the Paul Wellstone Memorial Award in the amount of $2500 to an individual or team who works with federal or state programs in Minnesota. This Award will support the efforts of an individual or team to implement a new project that they developed around a specified theme.

This award of $2500 will provide all or part of the funding necessary for project implementation during the 2008-2009 school year. Upon completion of the project and a breakout session presentation at a MAASFEP conference, an additional $250 stipend will be awarded to the project manager. In addition, over time, this award will provide an opportunity for our membership to view various peer project models from development through implementation as the award winner(s) will be asked to present at a future MAASFEP Conference.

This professional award will provide paraprofessionals, teachers, and/or administrators who work directly with federal or state programs an opportunity to implement a project of their own design that would meet the learning needs of their community. It recognizes both the expertise of MAASFEP members in understanding their students' academic needs as well as their ability to develop supplemental educational projects to meet those needs.

The specified theme of the 2008 Paul Wellstone Memorial Award is Parent Involvement. Applications are due on March 31, 2008.

  • The Award winner will be notified by June 1, 2008
  • The Award will be announced at the 2008 Fall Conference.

Project Criteria:

  • The development of a new endeavor focused on the specified theme.
  • Affects a number of students, parents and/or staff by individual or group efforts.
  • The demonstration of the development of an innovative program and/or the demonstration of innovative curriculum development.
