January 2006
During this past year, I have been
continually impressed by the commitment and
enthusiasm our members demonstrate. Many of
you took the time to come by our booth at
the National Title I Conference in Atlanta,
Georgia last January just to say hello or to
meet your officers of NAFEPA. Then what a
fantastic turn out we had for our 31st
annual conference at the Hyatt Regency on
Capitol Hill in March. If you were able to
attend, you were a part of the largest
NAFEPA gathering in our association’s
history. In May, many of our members
participated in the Brustein and Manasevit
Forum at the Omni Shoreham. The forum was
the first step in our developing partnership
with this law firm.
The members of our Board of Directors demonstrated why
they have been selected to represent their
states when they came together in September
for our Fall board meeting and training
session. The commitment and dedication of
this fine group of folks is overwhelming.
During the fall, many of our members
participated in our “District to District,
School to School, Student to Student”
campaign that brought donations to the folks
affected by the Katrina and Rita hurricanes
and storms. Your concern and support was
greatly appreciated.
In November, Rick Carder, membership chairperson, and I
represented NAFEPA at the Brustein and
Manasevit Fall Forum in Clark County,
Nevada. Many of our long time members and
some very new and soon-to-be members
participated in sessions that gave us the
most up to date information concerning No
Child Left Behind. Thanks to all of you for
making NAFEPA the outstanding professional
association that it is. As we look to the
new year, let me encourage you to
participate in the National Title I
Conference in Dallas, Texas, in January.
Your executive committee will again be
looking for you at the NAFEPA booth.
The 32nd Annual NAFEPA conference, “Charting the
Course,” is March 26-29, 2006 in Washington
DC. Carol Brush, vice president and
conference chairperson, has done an
unbelievable job of leading the conference
committee in bringing some of the top names
in education together for our conference.
You can learn more about the conference and
our fantastic agenda, including speakers and
registration information, from the link on
this web page. We look forward to seeing
many of you in Washington in March.
This coming year of 2006 brings opportunities for our
association to begin conversations with our
senators and members of Congress concerning
the reauthorization of the Elementary and
Secondary Education Act (ESEA), now known as
No Child Left Behind. Please continue to
forward ideas and suggestions to Elizabeth
Pinkerton or me on specific areas that you
believe need to be addressed in the
reauthorization of the law.
Thanks for making 2005 a year to remember for the
National Association of Federal Education
Program Administrators. Our Board of
Directors, along with the Executive
Committee and our consultant, Elizabeth
Pinkerton, joins me in wishing you all the
very best in 2006.
Bobby Burns, President, NAFEPA
