August 2006
Dear NAFEPA Members:
I
recently had the opportunity to speak to
over 400 school office personnel, and I
challenged them with three thoughts. The
first is to never forget where you’ve been.
The second is to always remember who you
are, and the third is to know where you are
going. I think we, as NAFEPA members, would
do well to accept the same challenges.
We are very fortunate
to have members that have been a part of our
association for many years. The depth of
their knowledge is priceless to me and to
your Executive Committee and Board of
Directors. They remember the days of getting
our NAFEPA association on a firm foundation
and the challenges that face a national
organization.
Who are we as an
association? What are our main purposes?
What services do we need to provide our
membership? These are all questions that I
feel we need to address as we move into a
new term of leadership in 2006-2008. Being
mindful of the past, but yet willing to step
out and move forward is a challenge. Your
Board of Directors seeks your input as we
make plans for the next two years and
beyond.
The NAFEPA Needs Assessment that
you will find in this edition of our
newsletter and on our website is designed to
offer you an opportunity to provide the
Board with your thoughts about what we are
and where we are going. Federal programs
continue to change, and we anticipate some
changes in NCLB with reauthorization, but we
want to be ready to communicate with the
decision makers about ways to provide the
best possible education for all children in
America.
Please take the time to complete
the needs assessment. Feel free to add
additional comments and suggestions. We
want to hear from you. We need to hear
from you.
You will also find information
about our 2006 scholarship recipients in
this edition. Karen Jensen and the
scholarship committee did an outstanding job
of pulling the process together. These young
people are to be commended for their
accomplishments, and I know you join me in
wishing them the very best in their college
experiences.
Thanks for your continued
support of NAFEPA and I hope you have a very
restful and safe summer.
Bobby Burns,
President, NAFEPA
