Dear NAFEPA Members:
The NAFEPA Board of Directors has just
finished the annual Fall workshop and
meeting that was held this year in San
Francisco, California. Our theme for the
weekend was “Simply the Best,” and our Board
of Directors (the state representatives on
the Board) proved it once again! The weekend
was packed with activities. Kristen Tosh
Cowan from the Brustein and Manasevit law
firm joined us to discuss our partnership
with the firm and to bring us up to date on
the latest happenings with reauthorization
on Capitol Hill. We had work sessions,
committee meetings, and a time of reporting
from our committees, and we wrapped up the
weekend with our annual Fall Board meeting.
I appreciate all our Board members and
officers for providing us with a very
productive weekend. It takes a tremendous
amount of time for our state representatives
to carry out the responsibilities that we
ask of them. They not only provide
information to our members and their states,
but they also serve in leadership roles for
our various committees.
As I said, our Board Members are… "Simply
the Best!"
The September-October issue of
our newsletter features our Spring
Conference which will be held April 13-16,
2008 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in
Washington, DC. Rick Carder and the
conference committee have done an
outstanding job of putting together this
year’s conference with some of the top names
in the nation in their respected fields.
From the opening session with Doug Reeves to
our closing session with Kristen Tosh Cowan,
the conference will enlighten and encourage
everyone who attends. Jack Jennings, Stan
Collender, and the U.S. Department of
Education will also provide enlightening
sessions.
Time is scheduled during the
Conference for Capitol Hill visits to the
members of Congress and Senate of our
conference attendees. With the
reauthorization of No Child Left Behind
right around the corner, this is one
conference you will not want to miss!
There will be much happening with NAFEPA in
the coming months in addition to our
monitoring of NLCB. Scholarship information
has been sent to our state representatives,
and we will once again award three $1,500
scholarships to students. Each of our state
representatives can nominate one student
from their state. We have sent out a call
for nominations for officers for the
2008-2010 term, and information for our
annual awards will be available soon.
We
continue to grow in the number of our
members—now over 2,800. At the same time the
quality of our organization keeps improving.
I thank you for all you do! THANKS!!!
Bobby Burns, President, NAFEPA
